The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration today announced the release of the National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services (N-SSATS) 2019 Annual Report. This report presents results from the 2019 N-SSATS, an annual census of facilities providing substance abuse treatment. The N-SSATS is designed to collect data on the location, characteristics, and use of alcohol and drug abuse treatment facilities and services throughout the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and other jurisdictions.
The National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services (N-SSATS) 2019 public-use files are available on the SAMHDA site. The N-SSATS is an annual census designed to collect information from all facilities within the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories, both public and private, that provide substance abuse treatment. The N-SSATS provides the mechanism for quantifying the dynamic character and composition of the U.S. substance abuse treatment delivery system.

The N-MHSS is an annual survey designed to collect statistical information on the services and characteristics of all known mental health treatment facilities within the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories.

This report presents findings from the 2019 N-MHSS, an annual census of all known facilities in the United States, both public and private, that provide mental health treatment services to people with mental illness. The N-MHSS is designed to collect data on the location, characteristics, and use of organized mental health treatment services for facilities within the scope of the survey throughout the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and other jurisdictions.
The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) Small Area Estimates (SAE) site has now been updated to include 2016-2018 state and substate data. As part of the Public-use Data Analysis System, the NSDUH SAE tool allows users to quickly see data by state and substate areas.

On August 28, 2019, the following enhancements were implemented for the Public-use Data Analysis System (PDAS):
- Added the TEDS-A 2000-2017 concatenated PUF
- Updated the Codebooks link to automatically open the selected study’s codebook
- Updated Logistic Regression to run properly
- Updated the footer to match the SAMHSA site
To view these enhancements in PDAS, select Analyze > Public Data (PDAS) from the menu bar.
